Everyday Sustainable Swaps with The Suburban Edit
Hello friends! It’s been a minute, hasn’t it?! I won’t lie, the past few months have been a bit difficult trying to juggle ‘all the things’ and it feels like time is just flying by, especially as things with Kresswell Interiors continue to become busier and busier. Over this past year it’s been tough finding the time to spend on this blog but today I’m excited to hop back in to say hello (!!) and to share a few products that I’ve been using for the past few months from Edmonton’s own The Suburban Edit. And while I’m not sharing any official gift guides this holiday season, I will say that all of these products today (and really, everything from Kathy’s amazing shop!) would make pretty great holiday gifts or stocking stuffers…. just sayin’! ;)
A few months ago I was asking on IG about environmentally friendly swaps or favourite products you all use and Kathy from The Suburban Edit reached out and generously offered a few products for me to try. I’ve been using these products for a few months now and a few of them have been real game changers for me.
In our household I feel like we’re fairly environmentally friendly in many ways but I knew that there were ways we could be better, so today I wanted to share which products I’m loving, what they’ve replaced and why I’m loving them…
So a guilty confession of mine is that James and I do use a fair amount of paper towel in our house. We always have dish cloths on hand to dry our hands after washing them but when it came to spills or wiping up in the kitchen, we would reach for the paper towel all the time. It took me a minute to get used to reaching for these cute cloths instead but now that we use them, I love them! We’ve cut back on our use of paper towel big time by always having one of these draped over our sink divider and I feel better knowing I’m not using as much paper product. Plus, they’re so cute! They come in so many fun patterns and colors and I love the idea of wrapping them around a bottle of wine like Kathy shows here in her post about zero waste hostess gifts- it would make for the perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer over the holidays!

For a little while there, I was guilty of going through single use makeup remover wipes like nobody’s business. The convenience of them makes them so easy but, I had to check myself and I realized that I needed to find a more environmentally friendly option. We do have face cloths at our house and I use them fairly regularly but even with those, I’d find I would use a makeup remover wipe to remove the bulk of my makeup (especially mascara/eyeliner) and then I’d use the washcloth because the washcloth would feel a bit too rough to use around my eyes. Enter these multipurpose wipes. They’re soft enough to use to remove my eye makeup and work really well to remove my makeup without any soap required. So now I can remove my makeup with a reusable and super soft cloth, and then wash my face from there. I’ve mostly eliminated the single use wipes from my life (with the exception of travelling) and I feel so much better knowing that I’m not contributing 1-2 single use wipes per day to our landfills. And, while I use them on my face as a makeup removing wipe, they’re also soft and gentle enough to use on any little ones in your life so they work really well as a baby wipe as well! Gotta love a multi-use product!
Last but not least, let’s talk about this adorable beeswax wrap! Before I started using this wrap I didn’t know how I would feel about it but it’s actually been my favourite new product I’ve incorporated into my life this year. We’ve never been big users of plastic wrap in our house but there would always be the odd times where plastic wrap or a ziploc bag seemed to make the most sense for food storage. What I love about this beeswax wrap is that you can pick from so many fun patterns and colors, but it’s super practical. Each pack comes with a variety of sizes and when you’re done, you give it a quick rinse/wash, let it dry and use it again!
What environmentally friendly or more sustainable swaps are you making in your life?
And like I said, while I’m not sharing any official holiday gift guides I will say that The Suburban Edit has so many amazing gift ideas on her online shop! Here are a few more that I love (and think would make the best holiday gift ideas!)
