Radiant Orchid- 2014 Color of the Year

As I mentioned a few weeks back in one of my Park Picks, each year I wait eagerly in anticipation for Pantone to announce their colors for the year ahead.  This year the color for 2014 is Radiant Orchid- a color that Pantone describes as "an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health."

Well I don't know about you, but that all sounds fabulous to me.  I haven't been this excited about a color since 2011's Honeysuckle (still totes my fave).  So, now that this IT color of the year has been announced, it's time to figure out how we incorporate this "expressive, creative and embracing purple" into our lives for the year ahead.

Decor

Being that design and decor is my first love, let's start here.  Radiant Orchid is a whole lotta color, so it doesn't take much of this luscious tone to create impact.  If you're feeling bold, a wallpapered or painted feature wall would be a statement making way to introduce this color into your home. For a smaller dose of this popular color candles, vases, prints or cushions can add a pop without commitment.

Beauty

Don't be scared of Radiant Orchid. It's bold and bright but the perfect way to introduce this color to your beauty regime is with a hit of nail polish, a bold lip or dramatic eye (tip - this color will make green eyes pop!).  Stick to radiant orchid on just one feature to not overwhelm the look.  Here's some of my beauty faves in this new fab color!

Style

Move over Emerald, it's Radiant Orchid's time to shine! From bags to shoes, scarves to coats, rock this color with a bold statement piece or keep it simple with smaller hits of this color in a pattern.  Accessories and small pieces are a great way to start to work this color into your wardrobe and before long, maybe you'll be wearing a full statement coat! The possibilities are endless.
