Summer Goals

Is it just me or is there something about tassels and fringe that makes you want to spin?! There's nothing quite like twirling around like a lunatic on the side of the road as people pass by to make you feel like you're nailing it at life haha Anyone else with me!? #bloggerproblems

Anyways, the first day of summer was on monday and I don't know about you but I'm so ready for summer to officially begin. Edmonton is an incredible city in the summer with amazing markets and festivals, gorgeous weather and our beautiful river valley - just to name a few of the city's summer highlights. After a stressful few months I've set a few goals for the summer and I'd love to know, what are some of yours?

1. Wear shorts and not give a f#!k

Does anyone else have a hard time with shorts? For as long as I can remember I've always been uncomfortable in shorts. My legs are not my best asset, and even as a child I was never comfortable showing them off. Well, this summer I'm saying f#ik it to insecurities and I'm wearing shorts and embracing my legs, imperfections and all. That's one of the best things about getting older, confidence and sometimes just not giving a damn and learning to be comfortable in your own skin.

2. Get an ice cream from 'The Cone'

Last summer I first learned about the cutest little ice cream that legit took over my IG feed. I meant to go all summer but never made the time so you better believe that this summer will be the one where I make it to the cone for some tasty ice cream!

3. Go to the mountains

We're so lucky in Alberta to have the rocky mountains right in our backyard. Despite the fact they're only a few hours away, I never make it out to enjoy them as much as I'd like to. This summer, James and I have set a goal to head to the mountains at least twice. The idea of a spontaneous adventure to go on a hike and take in some of the most beautiful scenery ever is one that makes me so excited for the summer months ahead.

4. Canoe down the North Sask river

A few people I know have done this and say it's a blast. I'd love to go out on a gorgeous day and canoe down the river. What a great way to get outdoors, explore your city and of course, work on your tan while you're at it! ;)

5. Explore my new 'hood

Next week we move and after spending almost 27 years in the same area of the city, I'm going to have a whole new area to explore and get to know. James and I actually snapped these photos as we were out for a walk in the new neighbourhood which actually has a ton of beautiful walkways that I can't wait to spend time on over the summer.

6. Have a picnic

Two years ago James and I met with a bunch of friends in Hawrelak Park for a picnic and it was so much fun. That was also the last time it happened - two years ago. That's going to change this summer as I've vowed to make it outside for a picnic at least once. It's such a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts!

7. Switch to natural sunscreen

As I've mentioned a few times before, I'm slowly trying to transition many of my beauty products to more natural ones and as summer is now upon us, I'm looking for a natural sunscreen to try. I've been told this is a good one but who has any other suggestions? Let me know, I'd love to give it a try!

8. Get outside as much as I can

Our summers fly by so quickly and as much as I hate to say it, fall will be here before we know it. I love getting outside and going for walks and enjoying the warm weather while we have it so I'm going to try to spend as much time outdoors this summer as possible. With setting into a new home I know it's not going to be easy but wish me luck!

9. Host a dinner party at our new place

As a perfectionist I know I'll struggle with our home not being 'perfect' right away. In reality, it takes months and even years to get a home where you want it so I'm not going to let that stop me from entertaining this summer. I'm looking forward to hosting friends and family in our new kitchen and making memories right away in our new home.

10. Relax and enjoy

This is a big one which is why I saved it for the end. As a Type A perfectionist who doesn't like to ask for help or say no, I get easily overwhelmed. Thankfully I've gotten better at self care over the past few months so this summer, I want to take lots of 'me time' and do the things that make me happy. Here's to a happy, sunny and fun filled summer ahead friends! Let me know, what are some of your summer goals?
